CSI attended the 2 December Washington DC Area Apache Spark Interactive, a one-day learning and discussion event co-sponsored by CSI partner Raytheon. The event title was “How Apache Spark fits into the Big Data landscape?” Apache Spark is intended as a general purpose engine that supports combinations of Batch, Streaming, SQL, ML, Graph, etc., for apps written in Scala, Java, Python, Clojure, R, etc. This event explored how Spark fits into the Big Data landscape – e.g., other systems with which Spark pairs well – and why Spark is needed for the work ahead. This talk also included a demo of integration among Spark Streaming, Spark SQL, and MLlib for real-time analytics, and a demo of the Databricks Cloud product offering.
